Poem for Friday, June 5, 2009

Haikus on Simplicity

I.

A robin chirping
'neath a canopy of leaves
her blue egg unhatched

II.

In the evening sun
I, sitting Indian style,
scratch my left elbow

III.

There are German words
on a silver can of beer:
I am pleased with them

IV.

The door is closed
just enough to where light fades
but the warmth still exists

V.

My glossy pebbles
surround my Buddha statue
suddenly, I thirst

  1. mmm. i've only written one haiku in my life. and it's in the vortex. maybe i should try again.

and yeah, this whole process is really rewarding. we'll have a chapbook's worth by the end of the summer.
